So Let's Attack Her

This is the oldest trick in the book, its usually pretty effective and the current Administration is very very good at it. What is it? Its a technique I like to call ... attacking the victim.

Valerie Plame was exposed as a CIA agent in retaliation for her husband's, Ambassador Joseph Wilson, criticism of the Administration's reasoning behind the war in Iraq. Her name was first reported in an article written by the conservative commentator Robert Novak.

As you can imagine, the names of current CIA operatives are kept secret because if everyone knows a CIA agents identity then the agents can't be very effective. Anyway, her name was released, her career was effectively over and the lives of the people that she worked with in covert operations put in jeopardy.

It has taken almost three years to find out who in the Administration leaked her identity and, about two weeks ago, it came out that of the people responsible for this stupid act, two were people very close to the Administration, Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.

Now that the two names out and the calls for the firing have started, what do we read in the Administration friendly New York Post and Administration friendlier Fox News? We learn that while she was a CIA agent, Ms. Plame "gave a campaign contribution to go toward an anti-Bush fund-raising concert."

I suppose since she did that it is okay for her secret information to be released because we don't live in the U.S. anymore, we live in freaking Bush Country.
